This course covers leaching of metals, oxides and sulphides and the kinetics of leaching processes. The kinetics of purification of leach solutions are covered including the recovery of the contained values using several techniques: crystallization, absorption, ionic precipitation, ion exchange and solvent extraction, reduction of metal bearing solutions by cementation, gaseous reduction, and electrolysis, electro refining/electroplating. Miscellaneous low temperature refining techniques are also discussed. A unit process approach is adopted. PREREQ: ENGR 2106, CHMI 2526, CHMI 2527 (lec 3, lab 3) cr 3.
