Biography

Kathy Browning is an Artist and an Art Educator. Kathy has taught Visual Arts and Technology at the elementary, secondary, and university levels and currently teaches the pre-service B. Ed. Visual Arts courses in the Faculty of Education. She also teaches Methods: Instructional Strategies and Social and Legal Issues in Education to Professional Year students and supervises student teachers in schools. She is passionate about Visual Arts and Technology. Kathy's relationship to landscape has inspired her to create photographically for over forty years. She pushes photography in her artistic work. Kathy has shown work in all art media and exhibited in numerous shows in the United States and Canada. She is a practicing artist and has had shows in sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, musical instruments, performance art, and particularly digital photography. Her latest exhibition entitled Scotland was shown at the Stopciati Gallery and Ireland prior to this at Artists on Elgin. Each photograph was a visual story where she let the environment tell her what photographs that needed to be taken and her photographic eye knew when to take the photograph from her years of experience as an artist and photographer. These photographic series are a merging of her artistic and academic skills as a visual arts researcher. An exhibition is a publication and some of her other exhibitions and photographic series have been Spirit Animals, Spirit of the North, Superior Power, Images on Rocks and Images on Icebergs.

Kathy has taught Visual Arts in a variety of School Districts in Ontario and Art Education at universities in the United States and Canada both at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Kathy regularly presents at conferences such as the Canadian Society for Education Through Art (CSEA); the National Art Education Association; Ontario Art Education Association (OAEA); the Congress of Humanities and Social Sciences, Canadian Society for the Study of Education, Canadian Association of Curriculum Studies: Arts Researchers and Teachers Society. Since 2008 she served as the Associate Editor of the Canadian Art Teacher published by CSEA. Kathy is the OAEA Near North Representative. She has done numerous workshops for teachers.
